You are under no obligation to sign a compromise agreement, although you are offered a carrot to agree it in the form of some payment of money, by way of a severance package. Statute requires you to obtain independent legal advice to make a compromise agreement binding to ensure that you are fully informed and aware of what you may be giving up before you agree to it. Indeed, it may be the case that we will tell you not to sign it, as we believe you could get a better severance payment or that you should sue your employer. It is our job to ensure you get the optimum severance package from a challenging scenario.
